Board Certified Small Animal Surgeon
Dr. Toni Kwan is a board certified small animal surgeon that has been in specialty surgery practice since 2012. She completed her veterinary degree at the University of Illinois, and then a one year rotating internship at Purdue University. Her post-graduate 3 year surgery residency was completed at North Carolina State University, where she was also introduced to surgery on exotic species through the local zoo program and Duke University's Lemur Center. She enjoys volunteering with Brookfield Zoo to perform specialized surgeries on a wide variety of species, many of them endangered. She believes one of the most rewarding aspects of practicing veterinary surgery is the ability to connect with families and provide options for care. Dr. Kwan fully recognizes that surgery can be one of many treatments available, and helps ensure families can elect for their best option. Being informed before deciding for or against additional diagnostics or treatments is a vital part of the veterinary-client-patient relationship.
